Portable basketball hoops placed on streets or next to curbs are causing problems for snow and ice removal in Hackettstown, according to a recent announcement from the Department of Public Works. The department has reminded residents that local ordinance Chapter 12 Article 8 prohibits blocking streets and sidewalks.

The Department of Public Works is requesting that residents remove portable basketball hoops from the street or sidewalk in front of their homes. This will help ensure that snowplows, salt trucks, and front-end loaders can clear roads without any obstructions.

The notice also states that if residents do not remove the obstructing basketball hoops, the Town will take them away and charge the property owner for the removal.

Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Department of Public Works at 908-852-2320.
