Mike Inganamort, a New Jersey politician, used his social media platform on December 12, 2025, to criticize state business tax policies and the proposed Tariff Transparency Act.
In a post from early that morning, Inganamort questioned the state’s business tax climate: “The highest-in-America business taxes strike again? New Jersey can do better.” (December 12, 2025).
Later in the day, he addressed legislation under consideration: “The so-called Tariff Transparency Act fails its own test. By omitting $22.2 billion in taxes, fees, and regulations added over the last eight years, it presents consumers with an incomplete and fundamentally inaccurate picture of why costs are rising in New Jersey. I offered the” (December 12, 2025).
That evening, Inganamort expanded on his criticism of the bill: “The Tariff Transparency Act is literally impossible to comply with, it’s punishing to New Jersey’s businesses, and it deliberately omits the main cost drivers in most products. Unfortunately, it may become law. Call your legislators and help us stop this absurd mandate.” (December 12, 2025).
New Jersey has long been recognized for having among the highest corporate tax rates in the United States. The proposed Tariff Transparency Act aims to provide consumers with information about tariffs’ impact on prices but has faced criticism from some lawmakers who argue that it does not account for other significant factors influencing costs such as additional state-imposed taxes and regulations.
