Sparta Township announced on April 13 that it will hold its annual Sparta Bag It Day event on April 18 and April 19. The event encourages residents to help clean up the community by collecting litter.
The initiative aims to involve local residents in keeping Sparta clean while promoting safety during the cleanup. Organizers are asking interested participants to email Mitch Morrison as soon as possible if they wish to take part.
According to the announcement, all volunteers must wear bright clothing, gloves, work pants, and work boots. Protective eyewear is also recommended. Participants are instructed not to pick up glass, rusty or sharp objects, anything too heavy, or items that appear dangerous such as syringes.
Volunteers should bring water and a healthy snack for themselves. The guidelines specify that all children must be continuously supervised by an adult with at least one adult per two children. Children are not permitted on the road for trash collection due to safety concerns. The township reminds everyone: “You are invisible to all traffic. Do not assume anyone can or will see you.”
The township’s rules highlight a focus on both environmental stewardship and personal safety during this community effort.
