Anybody can come up with a budget; the problem is executing it. Sometimes this requires a mental makeover. Debtors Anonymous is dedicated to helping people dig out of financial holes and emphasizes clarity – keeping track of spending, communicating with creditors, and knowing where every dollar is going.
DA also addresses Debt Addiction - a debt crutch to deal with financial and personal problems. Debt Addiction can control your life without an escape plan. Like substance addiction, it can start slowly and strike people regardless of their background or income.
The more credit cards are used, the easier it is to keep slapping on purchases, but you don't want to exceed the limit, so you get another card and then another one.
Pretty soon, debt piles up. You start worrying about juggling bills and being able to come up with new loans to pay for old loans. You've become addicted.
As with drugs and alcohol addiction, the first step is admitting you have a problem. The next step is getting help.
DA is a judgment-free support group that meets on Friday evenings at the Sussex County Recovery Community Center at 5:30 PM. All are welcome.
